Pep Guardiola is backed to see his Manchester City contract through to the end, despite rumors he will leave next summer.

The former FC Barcelona manager signed a new contract until 2027 at the end of last year, but new reports suggest he could leave the Etihad Stadium before the end of the year. A former City player has dismissed speculation, while explaining why Guardiola is a better tactician than Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Guardiola plans to quit after Manchester City.

At the end of July, Guardiola was asked about his future at City, with two years remaining on his contract.

He told GQ Hype: “I know that after this stage with City, I will stop, that’s for sure, it’s decided, more than decided. I will leave after this stage with City, because I need to take a break and concentrate on myself, on my physique. »

In October he joked that he would “think” about a break in 2035, but joking aside, the former midfielder is focused on winning this season.

“For the moment, I think I have the necessary energy with my players to have a better season than the previous one. That’s my goal. I will never tell myself at the beginning of November or December that we are going to win this or that,” he declared. “I see that we are doing much better than last season and that we are progressing a little more with each match. We have room for improvement in many areas and that gives me the energy not to say that the work is finished. This work is far from finished. That’s why I’m here. »

Guardiola “appreciates this reconstruction”

Earlier this week, The Times reported that Guardiola was considering leaving the Citizens at the end of the season. But former player Paul Dickov doesn’t see that happening, especially as his side are full of confidence again after overseeing significant changes to their squad. Elsewhere, the former Bayern Munich manager said he felt the “energy is back” at City after his 1,000th match as manager, which ended in a 3-0 win over Liverpool.

He told Best Betting Bonuses: “He signed for this season and next, and not many people expected that. So I think he’ll keep his word, at least. Watching Pep, even during the Club World Cup this summer and at the start of the season, he seems as enthusiastic and determined as when he arrived at the club. I think he’s really enjoying this rebuild, integrating these new players and getting them to play the way he wants. They are constantly progressing. I’m not saying that he has regained his former magic. I don’t think he’s ever lost it, but he looks as fresh and motivated as he did on day one, which is fantastic for everyone connected with Manchester City Football Club. Because it’s not just the team. The atmosphere at the training center, the staff, it’s a fantastic place. Pep creates this environment that allows everyone to give their best at all times. »
