It is now confirmed. The France team will compete in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Blues won this Thursday evening against Ukraine with a score of 4 goals to 0.

Didier Deschamps will indeed compete in his last international competition at the head of the French selection. The double world champion (1998 and 2018) and finalist in 2022 hopes to end his adventure with the blues which started in 2012 in style.

In a post-match press conference, the boss of the Tricolores spoke about the competition but also his ambitions. The 57-year-old wants to take it step by step. “It’s a new format, with more teams, one more match, and quite a few complications there. We have already thought about it quite a bit with the staff, and we will have a first response on December 5. That we have ambition, yes, but we will have to go through stages, with particular climatic conditions. We will have to look at the schedules, the recovery time between matches… We will have to look into all that in more depth. But we are going there with ambition. Let’s get through this first round already,” he told journalists.

“No nostalgia”

Didier Deschamps probably played his last match at the head of the France team at the Parc des Princes. Although the end is approaching, the national coach admits to having no nostalgia for his history in blue.

It may come as a surprise but I don’t have any nostalgia, I don’t look back yet, the most important thing is the present and what’s to come. Afterwards yes, probably, it was probably my last here tonight with the Blues. »
