Former French international and Red Devils striker Eric Cantona has spoken out about the causes of the club’s collapse since the Ferguson era.

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from the Manchester United bench in July 2013, the club has lost its luster. Today, the Red Devils no longer play the leading roles in the Premier League and are struggling to display any consistency.

Under the leadership of Ruben Amorim, the Mancunian team is trying to find a second wind after a complicated start. A period during which the Portuguese coach was regularly criticized, particularly for his tactical rigidity. Yet, according to some observers, United’s real problem lies elsewhere.

“He didn’t seem interested”

The former glory of the MU, Eric Cantona, did not hesitate to point the finger at the management of the leaders. “Sir Alex Ferguson created a magnificent style of attacking football, which the new owners should have built on. Instead, they destroyed it.”he said in comments reported by
The Telegraph.

The Marseillais also regretted that MU did not follow up when he offered his services to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. “I have many other passions and projects, but I told myself that for two or three years I could put them aside and try to give something to this club, which has given me everything. But he didn’t seem interested. I did what I had to do, so I no longer feel guilty. I did my best“, confided Cantona.
