It’s been more than a year since Pierre-Emile Højbjerg settled down at Olympique de Marseille. The Danish midfielder first joined the Marseille ranks from Tottenham in July 2024, as part of a loan with an option to buy for 13.5 million euros. A clause finally lifted by the club this summer.
In an interview given to World ElevenHøjbjerg reconsidered his decision to commit to OM. The child from Copenhagen confesses to having harbored some doubts, particularly due to the situation of the team, which had just finished its season in 8th place in Ligue 1.
“They were not at their level”
“Before my arrival, I didn’t watch OM too much. In addition, the season before my signing was a difficult season. I wasn’t following, and it’s true that at the start of my discussions with OM, I had doubts. They were not at their level but at the same time, they had a good run in the Europa League. There have been several changes of coaches,” explained the former Spurs player.
Today, while OM are back in the lead in the league and are once again competing in the Champions League, Højbjerg has no regrets about his decision to join Canebière. “ Well, it’s not for me to say what happened. But it’s true that when you see that Marseille finishes 8th in L1, you ask yourself questions before signing. But honestly, when I sit down and look back 15 months, I am very proud and very happy with my choice. I have lived many beautiful things, great experiences, I hope to experience many more things here”he added.
