During a leadership conference at ESIC University, La Roja and Barça legend Xavi looked back on his last year on the Blaugrana bench. “My mistake was to maintain these high standards for only a year, from my arrival until our victories in La Liga and the Super Cup… Later, I was able to be self-critical and I said to myself: ‘Damn, what happened to me?’ »explained the former Barça midfielder. According to him, lowering his standards after these successes led to a relaxation in the attitude and commitment of the players, causing a gradual decline in the team’s standard which peaked in his final season, where the club did not win any trophies.

The 45-year-old Spaniard also spoke about the locker room and his awareness: “I started my coaching career at Barça with high demands on the players and the club, because the latter was coming out of a period where standards were lower. But these requirements had been lowered and the players no longer had the same attitude, the same respect, the same commitment. » Despite this rather difficult period, Xavi assures that he remains motivated to continue his career: “I learned a lot from this experience. I had to be self-critical”.
