This Wednesday, Didier Deschamps was questioned about a painful statistic. This season, in C1, there is simply no French coach despite 36 qualified teams. An observation which hurts and which had the merit of making the coach of the Blues react at a press conference.
“I regret it. I’ve been asked this question before. I find that the French coach is not valued enough, already in France. Abroad, there are fewer and fewer of them. Are we any less good? I don’t think so. Maybe they are better organized, in the broad sense, certainly. In Ligue 1 or Ligue 2, I have nothing against foreign coaches, but they occupy the places. I am disappointed, because there are French coaches who have the abilities, but who are not in demand. Factually, the statistics are there, and they are not pretty, but that does not call into question the quality of our coaches. »
