The cordial understanding would have been shattered. Following Barça’s choice to return to the fold of the EFC (the former ECA) and therefore to let go of Real Madrid in the Super League project, relations between the two Spanish rivals are at their worst. All this without forgetting the intervention against the Merengues in the Negreira affair. This morning, Joan Laporta took stock of the situation and confirmed that there is respect between Blaugranas and Merengues, but nothing more.

“The reunion went well, with respect. We have never been married, so there can be no divorce. Relations are not good because they were brought up in the “Negreira affair”, where irrelevant and inconclusive facts are presented. The fact that the case is still ongoing must generate some interest. We don’t like it and the situation is tense. We are eternal rivals and we live it with respect. I didn’t want to broach the subject of the match in Miami against Villarreal. We saw opposition from the start from the AFE (the Spanish players’ association, editor’s note) and other clubs. I don’t think it affects the competition.”he declared on the microphone of Catalunya Radio.
