In the summer of 2024, Kylian Mbappé and his entourage bought 80% of the shares in Stade Malherbe de Caen via their Coalition Capital structure. An operation estimated at 20 million euros, which made the Real Madrid striker the majority shareholder of the Norman club.
But for some observers, the amount invested by the former Parisian does not correspond at all to the real value of the club. French journalist Romain Molina, in particular, looked into the matter in detail in a video published on his YouTube channel.

According to the football specialist, Mbappé bet on the wrong horse. “ We had planned from the start, Caen was a sick club from the start, financially. It was a club which was losing €8 to €10 million in structural deficit per year. When the Mbappé bought, some were ecstatic, no it was a very bad move “, he explains.
And to continue: “ How do you buy a full club, with a valuation of at least €20M, when the club loses €8 to €10M per year and the TV rights are a disaster? Mbappé was clearly fooled in terms of the club’s valuation. »
Sportingly, SM Caen is also going through a delicate period. Relegated from Ligue 2 to the National at the end of last season, the club is now stagnating in the middle of the table, in 10th place after twelve days. A tense situation which recently gave rise to
lively exchanges, via media, between Mbappé and the Norman artist Orelsan.
