FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was the target of 60% of online racist attacks in Spain, according to an alarming new study covering the 2024-2025 season.

The Blaugrana striker reportedly received twice as many insults online as Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. This publication highlights the extent of the racist attacks suffered by the best players in La Liga.

A new study reveals the scale of the attacks to which Yamal is the victim.

In a study obtained by the Spanish newspaper El País, the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia (Oberaxe) revealed the extent of the attacks suffered by the young FC Barcelona prodigy, Lamine Yamal.

According to the report, Oberaxe used artificial intelligence (AI) to detect 33,438 online attacks in Spain during the 2024-2025 La Liga season, of which 62% came from Facebook and 10% from X (formerly Twitter).

The study reveals that Spain international Yamal received 60% of hate messages, twice as many as Real Madrid’s Vinicius, who was reportedly the target of 29% of attacks.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona concentrate the majority of hate messages online.

Vinicius’ Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappé was also targeted with 3% of attacks, while Yamal’s FC Barcelona teammate Alejandro Baldé received 2%. Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz and Athletic Club striker Iñaki Williams were targeted by 2% of attacks, according to the study.

By analyzing the share of hate messages addressed to La Liga clubs, the study indicates that 66% of attacks targeted Real Madrid (34%) and FC Barcelona (32%). Real Valladolid (17%), Valencia (8%), Athletic Club (6%) and Real Sociedad (6%) complete the top 6 teams most affected by online hate messages.
