Every summer, Real Madrid methodically scan the market, spotting players close to the end of their contracts. There is no shortage of recent examples: Alphonso Davies, announced to be close to the club, finally extended his contract to Bayern Munich, while others, like Antonio Rüdiger or David Alaba, kept their word and arrived free.

This time, it is again the central defense which occupies all the attention. With several executives reaching the end of their cycle and injuries piling up, Casa Blanca wants to strengthen its defensive hinge. The return of Eder Militao and the rise of young Dean Huijsen bring a certain peace of mind, but the idea of adding an experienced defender remains at the heart of the discussions. Two profiles are monitored: Ibrahima Konaté and Dayot Upamecano.

Konaté in pole position

According to the daily A.S.Ibrahima Konaté is now the priority of Real Madrid. Under contract with Liverpool until June 2026, the French defender remains open to all options. His entourage is adopting a cautious strategy while suggesting a possible departure at the end of the season, with Madrid in a favorable position on this issue.

On the other hand, Upamecano seems less well placed for a transfer. The Bavarians have shown their desire to extend it, and certain positions of his entourage were perceived by the Merengue as an attempt to outbid him. The choice is therefore made: Konaté is the priority defender, and the coming months will determine whether this preference materializes through a signing.
