Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will have a crucial role to play in the club’s future in the coming weeks.

Last year, he announced that the club was studying a change of model, and at the next General Assembly, he will present a proposal to members.

The General Assembly will be held on November 22. Club members will then vote on the usual items, such as approving the annual accounts and the budget for the coming year. Pérez will then outline the change in model that he has been exploring for 18 months.

Pérez is under pressure from two opposing camps.

According to MD, disagreement exists within the Real Madrid board of directors on this issue. Pérez and his adviser Anas Laghrari, who was instrumental in the creation of the Super League, favor a model that would split Real Madrid into a separate sporting entity and commercial business.

A significant part of the board of directors, including his brother Enrique Pérez and general director José Ángel Sánchez, opposes this idea. It seems that lawyer José Luis del Valle, trusted advisor and secretary of the construction giant ACS, owned by Pérez, advises against it. Although Pérez has not yet reneged on his decision, del Valle’s opinion could weigh in his final decision.

Uncertainty about model change

The idea of splitting Real Madrid into two entities is the most often mentioned, but it is still unclear which proposal Pérez will submit to the referendum. Another option would be to sell 49% of Real Madrid to investors, leaving club members as majority shareholders, or to make the Real Madrid Foundation the majority shareholder. Any decision must be approved by a vote of the members.
