After a catastrophic start to the season with only one victory in its first eight league matches, Real Sociedad has turned its head around. But the Basque club is still far from its best level and this Friday, it did no better than a draw, snatched on the Elche pitch (1-1, 12th day).

The locals began the opposite journey with good performances at the start, and then a drop in performance which ended this evening with a fifth match in a row without success in La Liga. However, the Franjiverdes opened the scoring just before the hour mark thanks to Alvaro Rodriguez (1-0, 57th).

A loser who doesn’t help anyone

But despite 63% possession of the ball throughout the game, Elche ended up breaking down at the very end of the match with a penalty conceded following an illegal intervention by David Affengruber. The experienced Mikel Oyarzabal did not need to be asked and transformed the sentence to give Sociedad a draw (1-1, 89th).

In the provisional ranking, Elche is ninth but could fall depending on other results to come. As for Real Sociedad, its four points lead in the red zone could also melt like snow in the sun by the end of this twelfth day.
