This week is definitely taking a bad turn for French clubs engaged on the European scene. After the setbacks of Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille in
Champions LeagueLOSC and OGC Nice got tripped up in the Europa League.
Despite a very encouraging start, Lille is on a slippery slope. Already beaten by PAOK Salonika after a crazy match (3-4), the northern club once again performed poorly on the pitch of Red Star Belgrade.
The Mastiffs have fallen into a trap. Bruno Genesio made numerous changes at kick-off. An approach that did not bear fruit. Ineffective in the zones of truth, his team was surprised on the gong by conceding a penalty converted by the experienced Arnautovic (1-0, 85th). A fatal blow. Fifteenth, Lille does not advance and allows its evening host to unlock its victory counter.
Nice can’t do it
For its part, OGC Nice continued its terrible series in the European Cup with a 16th consecutive match without a victory. A record which becomes embarrassing, but which does not suffer from any dispute as the Aiglons continue to perform insufficiently in the middle of the week.
Nice, however, had the merit of opening the score against Friborg thanks to a goal from Kevin Carlos (1-0, 25th), but Franck Haise’s men lost their footing against a more consistent German team in all areas of the game. Manzambi (1-1, 29th) equalized, with a terrible short time materialized by the goals of Grifo, from the penalty spot (1-2, 39th), then Scherhant just before half-time (1-3, 42nd). Nice did not recover. 35th, the Gym sees its future getting a little darker.
