Haaland added to his impressive goal tally as Manchester City hosted the German giants by scoring his fifth Champions League goal of the season on the half-hour mark. The first-half goal saw the Norwegian goal machine make history.
Haaland in great shape at club and national team
Haaland has had a thunderous start to the season, both for club and country. The Norway international came into Wednesday’s match with 17 goals in 13 games in the 2025-26 season, only remaining silent in league defeats to Tottenham and Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old deceived Gregor Kobel with a powerful strike after being found by Jérémy Doku on the half-hour mark, giving Manchester City a 2-0 lead against Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium. Phil Foden opened the scoring for the Citizens midway through the first half, as City looked to secure a third consecutive victory in all competitions.
Pep Guardiola’s side made an unbeaten start to their Champions League campaign, with a 2-2 draw at Monaco sandwiched between a 2-0 home success against Napoli and a 2-0 victory against Spaniards Villarreal. Haaland has scored in all four of City’s European matches this season, and when added to his brace against Real Madrid at home last season, he has etched his name into history.
The Norwegian makes history again
Haaland’s first-half goal for City against Dortmund saw the striker become the first player to score in five consecutive Champions League matches for three different clubs. He missed the Champions League play-off second leg lost to Real Madrid in February due to injury.
The powerful striker had already achieved this feat with his former clubs, Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg. Haaland has only made six Champions League appearances for Salzburg, but scored in five of them during the 2019-20 European campaign, including in the 4-3 defeat at Liverpool in October 2019.
Haaland then scored in five consecutive games for Dortmund in the 2020-21 Champions League season, against Lazio, Zenit St. Petersburg, Club Brugge and Sevilla, before joining Manchester City in 2022.
