Inter and AC Milan took six years to achieve their goals. Faced with a dilapidated San Siro, the two Milanese clubs decided to turn a page in their history by building a new stadium. A project that will finally be able to accelerate. Rossoneri and Nerazzurri have officially bought the area where San Siro is located and its surroundings. As a reminder, the emblematic enclosure will be destroyed and replaced by a brand new modern stadium.
“FC Internazionale Milano and AC Milan announce that they have today signed the deed of sale with the Municipality of Milan for the acquisition of the Grande Funzione Urbana San Siro, which includes the Meazza stadium and its surroundings. The construction of the new stadium and the urban renovation of the San Siro district mark a new chapter for the city of Milan and for the two clubs. This important milestone reflects the shared ambitions of Inter and Milan, as well as their respective owners, the funds managed by Oaktree and RedBird, for long-term sporting success and an investment that will create value to support the sustainable growth of both clubs. The clubs have commissioned Foster + Partners and MANICA to design and develop a new world-class complex and masterplan for the surrounding area. The stadium will meet the highest international standards and is destined to become a new architectural icon for the city of Milan. As part of this project, a new center of excellence will be created, reflecting the sporting and cultural vocation of the San Siro district and the entire city, and regenerating an urban space under the sign of innovation, sustainability and accessibility. The operation, finalized by the company Stadio San Siro SpA, is supported by financing granted by the international banks Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan as main coordinators, as well as by the clubs’ banking partners, Banco BPM and BPER Banca», Indicates the press release.
