Big news in Ligue 1. The “Ref Cam”, this camera installed on referees and already seen in several international competitions, will make its big debut in Ligue 1 this weekend. According to information from Parisianthe device will be used during two matches: Paris FC-Rennes, Friday at 8:45 p.m., and OL-PSG, Sunday evening at 8:45 p.m.

This innovation will allow viewers to immerse themselves in the heart of the action, following the match from the referee’s point of view. In partnership with Ligue 1+, the director will be able to use live images in the match stream, like any other camera angle. Objective: to offer an immersive experience and better feel the intensity of the game on the pitch.

A success in the Club World Cup

Already tested in several championships, the “Ref Cam” enjoyed notable success during the last Club World Cup. “The success of the portable camera exceeds our expectations”declared Pierluigi Collina, president of the FIFA Referees Commission. “We thought its use could be interesting for viewers, and the feedback we received confirms that.”

In addition to its spectacular appearance, this new tool is also a fantastic training tool for officials. As Collina recalled, it allows “to see what the referee sees on the pitch. It’s great for the viewer, but also very useful to explain why an incident may have escaped their attention. »
A small audiovisual revolution.
