This season, the audiences for “Canal Football Club” are breaking records in terms of mediocrity. Only 185,000 viewers watched the show presented by Hervé Mathoux last Sunday.

Several factors explain these catastrophic figures.
“It’s very simple to explain.. Loss of Ligue 1 rights. Which means that this program is still in prime time access on Sundays and doing a program without an image of Ligue 1 and with just images of the European Cups which are already 3 or 4 days old, or even 5, plus the English championship which generally no one cares about, is not a good idea”analyzed Pierre Ménès on his YouTube channel.

In 2021, the sports journalist left Canal+, after having collaborated for almost twelve years with the audiovisual group, in which he had become an emblematic figure thanks to his role as sniper of the “Canal Football Club”.
The Paris native did not “survive” to the broadcast of the documentary “I’m not a slut, I’m a journalist” by Marie Portolano.

Pierre Ménès, his solution to boost CFC audiences

“I’m not happy about it because I don’t have any particular feeling of revenge. It doesn’t sadden me either because we shouldn’t mess around either but I don’t understand the point of keeping the show as it is.”continues the 62-year-old man.

CFC audiences could nevertheless rise again soon. “If, in the coming months, Canal were to regain a position in Ligue 1 as rumors are starting to spread, we could find a CFC with Ligue 1 summaries and that would change the situation in terms of audience”imagines Menes. The Sunday program had even recently fallen below 1% audience.
