Trent left the Premier League champions in controversial circumstances to join the Whites for a fee of €10 million at the start of June. Even before his departure from Anfield, he had been booed by a large part of the supporters as soon as his transfer was announced.
The 27-year-old right-back will therefore return to his training club of nine years and hopes for a warmer welcome, like the one he received during Liverpool’s championship title celebrations last summer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold comes out of silence
“The reception I receive will depend on the supporters. I will always love this club; I will always be a supporter of the club,” he told Prime Video.
“I will always be grateful for the opportunities and successes we have achieved together; they will remain engraved in my memory. Whatever happens, my feelings towards Liverpool will remain unchanged. I have lasting memories there, and no matter the reception I receive, that will not change.
“It’s a mix of emotions. It will be a very, very difficult match, but I’m looking forward to it. A crucial match and a huge stage where I will have to give everything. It will be very different going into the visiting locker room, warming up on the other side; everything will seem very different to me.
“It will be a very difficult match. The welcome and the atmosphere will contribute to this, but above all the game itself. Having played there with the guys and under the coach, I know how strong this team is. They are a top team and I knew that one day I would return there or play against Liverpool here in Madrid. »
“Even though Liverpool haven’t had the results they were hoping for recently, they are still a very high level team, and no one here thinks it will be an easy game. Bellingham ended up convincing me” for my transfer to Real Madrid, admits Trent.
Trent has denied that his close friend Jude Bellingham played a role in his decision to join Real Madrid.
The former Liverpool player admitted asking the midfielder about life at the Bernabéu, but claims no questionable moves were employed regarding his transfer this summer.
Alexander-Arnold explained: “There has been a lot of speculation, particularly about the ‘Agent Jude’ story.
“This was even more true during his first season at Real Madrid. We met during the England team’s training sessions and everyone wanted to know what it was like behind the scenes. He said it was incredible and that he had never seen anything like it.
“The ambition to win of the whole club and the demand for victory. He spoke so highly of the club, and in the end, I was convinced: I needed a change. I wanted a new challenge, on and off the field. It’s a dream come true. »
