Journalist Daniel Riolo attributes the turnaround in the situation for Habib Beye at Rennes to the shattering revelations from L’After Foot, which would have forced the club into a general rethinking.

Having come very close to dismissal after the defeat of Stade Rennais against OGC Nice (1-2), a week ago, Habib Beye finally obtained a reprieve. The Senegalese coach was thus able to direct the last two matches of the Breton team, against Toulouse (2-2) and RC Strasbourg (4-1).

The success of the Rouge et Noir against the Alsatians, in particular, allowed the former Canal+ consultant to consolidate his position on the Rennes bench. But that’s not the only factor that worked in his favor. According to journalist Daniel Riolo, the recent revelations of After Football on RMC have profoundly changed the situation within the club.

“I think some people didn’t like our revelations at all”

We must not be falsely modest. We saved Rennes. The After saved Rennes, I affirm it. All our revelations saved Rennes and I even think that in Rennes they know it. (…) The revelations about everything that happened forced everyone to look in the mirror and take stock and self-criticism. It put a big spotlight on the club. I think the owner got fed up, first wanted to fire everyone, first the coach since it was the easy solution, then the rest. Then he said: you will work together to get along and continue together », Explains the editorialist.

Pouille had never spoken to support his coach. He was forced to do it. The players were made to face their responsibilities. I think some people didn’t like our revelations at all and said to themselves that it’s not right to blame a coach and not do your job properly, we are still professionals with big salaries. Anyway, I think that if Beye had jumped, it would put enormous pressure on them towards the supporters. I sincerely think that our revelations have done a lot of good in Rennes », concludes Riolo.
