Odegaard at Barça, the enormous betrayal

FC Barcelona is already planning for the next summer transfer window.

Its sporting director, Deco, publicly declared that no transfer was planned during the winter transfer window. If the center forward position remains the Blaugrana’s priority, the Catalan club is now associated with an interest in a creative environment.

The midfielder in question would be Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard. The former Real Madrid player is on Barça’s list of targets, according to Indykaila, who plans to take action in the summer of 2026. The media believes that the 26-year-old Norwegian is ready for a career change.

Is a transfer of Ødegaard possible for FC Barcelona?

Ødegaard has two years left on his Arsenal contract next summer. The Blaugrana would therefore have to pay a significant sum for a midfielder in his prime. As things stand, with the urgent need for a new number and budgetary constraints, such a transfer seems unlikely. Obviously, Barcelona could make sales, trades and attempt to raise funds between now and June to remedy this situation.

How could Barcelona integrate Odegaard into their squad?

It must be said that there is no indisputable starting place for Odegaard, who, as things currently stand, would be in competition with Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Pedri and Fermin Lopez. That said, Odegaard could feel he could dislodge Fermin or Olmo from their place, neither of whom are currently indisputable starters. Furthermore, Odegaard could play in a three-way system with de Jong and Pedri.

How likely are Barcelona to make a move for Odegaard?

As it stands, that seems pretty far away. Barcelona currently have more pressing needs in attack and defense, if they have funds for transfers next summer. Another element to take into account: the possibility that Barcelona tries to sell Fermin and Olmo. It’s worth noting that with 2.5 years left on Arsenal’s contract, Odegaard’s agents are likely considering an extension in the near future, and interest from FC Barcelona is a way to up the ante.
