A match at Anfield to restore confidence. Arne Slot’s Liverpool stopped the bleeding after four defeats in a row in the Premier League and a very annoying elimination in the League Cup, even with the second team, against Crystal Palace (0-3) in front of their home crowd. The reigning English champion was forced to get back on track as next week offers a Champions League shock against Real Madrid then a huge duel against Manchester City.

Hugo Ekitiké celebrated his sixth goal of the season before being flagged offside by the video referee (43rd) and it was Mohamed Salah who reached this total of goals just before half-time (45th+1). Emiliano Martinez completely missed a restart by sending the ball to the Egyptian crack, who opened the scoring with his right foot.

In the second half, Ryan Gravenberch hit full axis only to see his shot, deflected, also deceive “Dibu” Martinez (58th). Florian Wirtz did not start and came on in the 77th minute.

LFC took the opportunity to return to 3rd place in the standings, tied on points with 2nd, Bournemouth, which challenges Man City this Sunday. Aston Villa, for its part, is experiencing a downturn after four wins in a row. Unai Emery’s team, with Lucas Digne, Boubacar Kamara and Evann Guessand at kick-off, is 11th.
