Kylian MbappĂ© continues to make history. This Saturday, during Real Madrid’s victory against Valencia (3-0) for the 11th day of La Liga, the captain of the France team scored a double. The first goal from a penalty, the second from an acrobatic gesture on a serve from Arda GĂĽler. Two achievements which bring his total to thirteen league goals this season, twenty-one in all competitions. But above all, these two goals allow him to overtake Thierry Henry in the ranking of the top French scorers in the five major European championships. At 26, MbappĂ© now has 235 goals. Henry stops at 233.
A double after presenting his Golden Shoe
Who could have predicted this in 2015, when MbappĂ© began his professional career in Monaco? At the time, Thierry Henry was an untouchable legend. The top scorer in the history of Arsenal, world champion, European champion. MbappĂ© was just a promising young prodigy. Ten years later, the disciple has surpassed the master. And it’s not over yet. Now third in the historical rankings behind Bernard Lacombe (255 goals) and Karim Benzema (281 goals), MbappĂ© has the absolute record within reach. At this rate, he could well crush it before the end of his career.
This double was timely. Before kick-off, Mbappé presented his Golden Shoe to the public at the Santiago Bernabéu. A reward which crowned his last season, where he finished top scorer in Europe. Scoring two goals just minutes after receiving this tribute was the perfect way to celebrate. And given how he has gone this season, a second consecutive Golden Boot seems within reach. Thirteen goals in eleven La Liga matches, twenty-one in all competitions. No one can keep up with him.
Mbappé leaves the second penalty to Vinicius
Kylian Mbappé is inspired, but he remains generous. During this match against Valencia, Real Madrid obtained two penalties. Mbappé converted the first. But for the second, he left the ball to Vinicius. The Brazilian, unfortunately, failed. A gesture which proves that despite his status as an absolute star, the Bondynois remains a team player. And this generosity does not prevent him from continuing to score in spades.
Next week, Real Madrid travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Champions League. Last year, this trip was not successful for him. But this time, Mbappé is in full swing. Thirteen goals in La Liga, twenty-one in all competitions, third top French scorer in history in the five major championships. At the age of 26, he became the king. And no one seems to be able to stop him.
