Champions League, a death draw for OM?

A third of the way through the current financial year, it is a little early to be interested in the draw for next season’s Champions League, but the site Football Rankingswhich produces projections of European clubs, has established the four hats of the draw for the first phase of the C1 of 2026-2027. In this case, the projection of the pots is interesting for Losc, OM and AS Monaco, with PSG obviously expected to be among the top seeds in the event of qualification for the next LDC.

But even for the winner of the 2025 Champions League, it is worth noting that PSG would only be the sixth team in the UEFA club rankings behind Real Madrid, Bayern, Inter, Manchester City and Liverpool. Borussia Dortmund, Barça and Leverkusen (if all these people qualify for the C1 next year) complete hat 1 according to projections from
Football Rankings.

In the new format of the first European Cup, the four hats certainly have much less importance because each team inherits two opponents from its own pot. But appearing in pot 4 obviously means that his UEFA ranking is among the lowest nine of the participants. And this is the case for Monaco and Marseille!

OM and Monaco in danger

The Monegasques and the Marseillais, who are nevertheless competing in the Champions League this season, would for example be ahead of teams like Leipzig, Villarreal, Aston Villa and even Bodo/Glimt and Olympiakos. A death draw for OM or ASM? Real Madrid and Bayern in pot 1, Arsenal and Chelsea in 2, Napoli and Juventus in 3 and Galatasaray and Union Saint-Gilloise in 4.

It’s mathematical: appearing in hat 3 for the French representatives of the LDC gives a little more chance of falling on two very weak teams from hat 4.
