There will be some very nice people this Thursday in Cannes. The Riviera club opens its Cannes Legends program with a first charity match pitting former Cannes stars against an all-star team called The Stars of Hope.

Most of the former figures of AS Cannes responded, as confirmed to Nice-Matin by Sébastien Frey, ambassador of the program. “The idea is to reconnect with the glorious past and the players who passed through AS Cannes. It takes a lot of time and energy to prepare for this event. I am the main link with the elders and I had to call them all! It was unanimous, everyone wanted to come because Cannes always has a special place in their hearts”he confided.

And if Zinedine Zidane, whose face does not appear on the posters promoting the meeting, was uncertain for a while, he will ultimately be there in the same way as Patrick Vieira or Luis Fernandez, who will lead this Cannes team. “Zidane will be there with a great lineup of players from several generations,” assured the former goalkeeper of the France team.

The expected team opposite will also look very good since Didier Deschamps, Christian Karembeu, Steve Mandanda, Ludovic Giuly, Clément Grenier and Kevin Gameiro are announced. And to supervise them, Aimé Jacquet is expected.

At 83, the former coach of the France team is enjoying a well-deserved retirement near Lake Annecy and was not present, a year ago, for the match event organized for the 100th anniversary of Parc Lescure, where he nevertheless wrote among the most beautiful pages of his coaching career.
