During the 9th day of the English championship on Saturday, Manchester United won 4-2 against Brighton, but the meeting was also marked by a historic moment. Young Greek striker Charalampos Kostoulas, 18, scored his first goal for the Seagulls on an assist from veteran James Milner.

This goal set an unprecedented record in the history of the Premier League: that of the largest age gap between a passer and a scorer, i.e. 21 years and 146 days. Better yet, it is the first time that a player offers an assist to a teammate who was not yet born during his PL debut. Milner had in fact played his first match with Leeds in November 2002, while Kostoulas was born in May 2007. This is what we call a passing of the baton between generations.
