There was the Ballon d’Or. Now for the awards awarded by Fifpro. The players' union revealed this Monday the list of 26 finalists for the eleven of the year, according to the votes of the footballers themselves.
For the Ballon d'Or, PSG hit hard by placing nine players among the finalists. For Fifpro, it’s less good. There are “only” seven winners of the Champions League, including Gianluigi Donnarumma.
This change is notably due to better balancing in the pre-list. For the Ballon d'Or, there was only one goalkeeper and three defenders out of the 30 finalists, with a host of attackers. For the Fifpro eleven, the idea being to build a team that resembles something, the selection is more varied: three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and eight attackers.
Three Parisians less, one more
This benefits Marquinhos, who was not among the Ballon d'Or finalists, and who is applying for a place in the Fifpro eleven. On the other hand, no Willian Pacho, his solid friend in central defense, who was not acclaimed by his peers. William Saliba and Pau Cubarsi were particularly preferred.
Conversely, three PSG players therefore bear the brunt of the competition in the middle and in attack. These are Fabian Ruiz, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. On the other hand, we do find Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the 26…
