Complicated week for OM. Beaten by Sporting Portugal in the Champions League (2-1), Olympique de Marseille suffered a second setback, this time in Ligue 1 against RC Lens. In front of the score, the Phocéens were overthrown, weighed down by a penalty conceded and an own goal from Benjamin Pavard. Consequence: OM loses the lead in the championship, overtaken by PSG and its opponent of the day.
Despite this new setback, Roberto De Zerbi was far from despondent. Faithful to his speech focused on the game, the Italian technician preferred to remember the content rather than the result. “We can lose in two ways: because the opponent is better, or on details”he told the press, comments relayed by The Team.
“Did Lens create so many chances? »
For him, his team was not dominated. “We still came away with zero points but I think we were better than the opponent in the game, like in Lisbon”he added. “I am happy with what the players did. Against a physical and vertical team, conceding two goals, the lack of freshness of some can be felt with the sequence. We have a lot of matches to play. But we must remain objective in the analysis. We will be able to have a good season, even better than I expected”continued the Marseille coach, confident despite the result.
The latter explained more about this defeat and the content of the match: “Against Sporting, the expulsion changed everything. This (Saturday) evening, honestly, we were always in it, even if we were less dangerous. We created too little in the second half, also because Lens defended well… But did Lens create so many chances? Was the goal from a corner a planned pattern? It was a bit the same thing on the second conceded in Lisbon…”. The message got through.
