Olympique Lyonnais hosted RC Strasbourg this Sunday at Groupama Stadium for the 9th day of Ligue 1. The Rhone players had two consecutive defeats in the league, while the Alsatians had recorded two draws.
Panichelli crashes first
The visitors were the first to strike. In the 25th minute, Joaquín Panichelli opened the scoring with a diving header, from a cross from the right side by Guela Doué (0-1). Six minutes later, Les Gones reacted. After Tyler Morton recovered from a ball from Mamadou Sarr, the English midfielder launched Malick Fofana on the left flank. The young Belgian then saw his cross deflected by Ismaël Doukouré, who deceived the goalkeeper and tied the teams (1-1, 31st).
Tolisso misses, Doukouré sent off
In the 42nd minute, Lyon missed the opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot. Gones captain Corentin Tolisso saw his right-footed shot pushed back by Strasbourg goalkeeper Mike Penders. RCS found itself down to ten men after the hour mark, following a foul by Doukouré on Fofana. Initially sanctioned with a yellow card, the French defender finally received a red after intervention by the video referee.
Moreira tolls the death knell
Finally, Paulo Fonseca's men won in added time thanks to a goal from Afonso Moreira, who scored his first goal in Ligue 1. From the left wing, the young Portuguese striker curled his right-footed shot into the small opposite net of Penders (2-1, 90'+2). This result allows Lyon to move up to 4th place. However, it was a bad operation for Strasbourg, which fell to 7th place.
