It was one of the expected shocks of the start of the European football season. This Sunday afternoon, Real Madrid hosted FC Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Led by Kylian Mbappé in great form since the start of the season, the Merengues hoped to finally dominate a Barça which has often taken the best in this clash in recent years. For this, Xabi Alonso relied on a Mbappé-Vinicius duo in attack and a midfielder reinforced by Camavinga to support Tchouaméni, Bellingham and Güler. The Catalans, decimated by numerous injuries (Raphinha, Lewandowski, Olmo, Christensen, Joan Garcia, Gavi), were hoping for a great Lamine Yamal to bring down Real Madrid. Hansi Flick, still suspended and in the stands for this match, entrusted the keys to the game to Pedri, De Jong and Fermín Lopez.

At home, Real Madrid had no choice but to quickly take control of the game to ignite this match. And as is often the case in this type of match, Kylian Mbappé was scrutinized with great interest. The Frenchman, after discreet first minutes, appeared for a brilliant stroke of which he has the secret. After a high recovery from Güler, he sent a sudden missile, without control, which completely surprised Szczęsny. The Bernabéu exploded and Mbappé had his new thrill moment against the rival. But ultimately, the goal was canceled after intervention by the VAR for a very slight offside position (12th). Not enough to bring down the Frenchman since it was only a matter of time before he shook the nets for good.

Well launched in depth by Jude Bellingham, he went to adjust Szczęsny (1-0, 22nd). A goal which came just after a slight awakening for Barça, who had regained control of the game. The Barcelonans were more ambitious in the game despite an unrecognizable Lamine Yamal. The Spanish international made numerous technical errors, missed passes and even hampered his team's transitions at times. A day without for him, unlike Fermín Lopez, who managed to get a few chances. The Spanish nugget equalized against the run of play (1-1, 38th). Enough to restart the meeting, because in the process, Real Madrid took the lead again through Bellingham. The Englishman, excellent in this match, found himself as usual right in the right place to push the ball into the back of the net (2-1, 43rd).

Upon returning from the locker room, Barça had to show much better to get back into the game. But it was Real Madrid who were closest to the break. The match referee, César Soto, after intervention by the VAR, decided to whistle a light hand from Eric Garcia. Mbappé had obviously positioned himself to convert his shot against Wojciech Szczęsny. But the Polish goalkeeper repelled the former PSG striker's shot to keep his team alive (52nd). In the process, Fermín Lopez did not go far from the equalizer and, in the meantime, Lamine Yamal crossed the meeting with disturbing discretion. To try to make the break, Xabi Alonso refreshed his attack and released a hitherto clean Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian, furious at his early exit, clearly showed his displeasure and went straight to the locker room. On the pitch, Barça, powerless, could only settle for a defeat in this match and at a high-tension end to the match (especially on the bench), Pedri was logically sent off after a second yellow. With this success, Real Madrid takes a five-point lead over its evening opponent and already seven points over third-placed Villarreal.
