After Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest last year (arriving 9th and 7th respectively), Sunderland is the surprise team of this first part of the Premier League season. As promoted! Régis Le Bris was inducted onto the bench in the summer of 2024 by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, owner and chairman of the Black Cats, and managed to take the northern club into the elite by winning the play-offs at Wembley.

Sunderland AFC offered themselves a 5th prestigious victory for the 9th day of the PL by winning at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea (1-2). Enzo Le Fée and his teammates take 2nd place in the ranking, between Arsenal and Manchester City, while awaiting the matches of the two clubs this weekend across the Channel.

The Blues, however, opened the score from the start by deceiving Robin Roefs with a cross shot (4th), but Sunderland equalized through Wilson Isidor (22nd), the French striker who played through Rennes and Monaco scoring his 4th goal. “We showed character, we continued to believe in it because it’s our motto, we keep saying it in the locker room”Isidor rejoiced.

Chelsea disappointing, Sunderland taking advantage

The young striker Marc Guiu (19 years old), scorer against Ajax in the Champions League during the week, was kept in the eleven by being associated with Joao Pedro but the two players had no opportunity. Enzo Maresca, certainly deprived of Cole Palmer and Liam Delap, made changes too late.

It was at the end of added time that Sunderland snatched the three points on a counter-attack led by incoming Brian Brobbey and concluded by Moroccan international Chemsdine Talbi (93rd). The residents of the Stadium of Light will have the opportunity to continue when Everton, currently 13th in the Premier League standings, comes. Chelsea are 8th with three points less, before a derby against Tottenham.
