Xabi Alonso's debut on the Real Madrid bench seems particularly encouraging. In eighteen matches at the head of the Madrid team, the Spanish coach has recorded fifteen victories, one draw and two defeats.

The only big disappointments: the elimination against Paris Saint-Germain (4-0) in the semi-final of the Club World Cup and the heavy defeat against Atlético Madrid (5-0) during the 7th day of La Liga. But, currently, the Merengue club occupies first place in the ranking, two lengths from its runner-up, FC Barcelona.

“We can do better”

Despite this positive result, Xabi Alonso expects more from his team. The Basque believes that the Spanish vice-champion still has a level to overcome.

“If I consider that Real Madrid play good football? Yes, I like what we do, but I think we can do better. We are building a solid foundation. We are reliable, but we still need to go one step further. There is always room to progress”explained this Saturday at a press conference. The good news? A new test awaits him and his men this Sunday during the Clasico against Barça, at the Bernabéu, in La Liga.
