It was the shock of the weekend in Ligue 1. This Saturday evening, the Racing club of Lens won in front of its home crowd against Olympique de Marseille with a score of 2 goals to 1.

Although trailing following a goal from Mason Greenwood in the first period, the Lensois club managed to overthrow the Olympian team with goals from Odsonne Edouard and Benjamin Pavard against his camp.

A big blow from the Sang et Or who offer themselves a champion of the championship but who above all temporarily seize second place in the ranking behind Paris Saint-Germain, the new leader.

For its part, Olympique de Marseille achieved one of the bad achievements of the day with this defeat. The Phocéens temporarily drop to third position in the ranking while awaiting the meetings of RC Strasbourg and Olympique Lyonnais. OM therefore continue with a second defeat in a row this week after the setback suffered in the Champions League against Sporting Portugal.

Greenwood lights the fuse, Edouard responds

In this clash of the 9th day, both teams wanted to put in all the ingredients to achieve a result. From the first minutes, it was OM who showed themselves to be the most enterprising with strong possession of the ball.

A domination rewarded by a nice goal from Mason Greenwood at the start of the match. The Englishman was perfectly served by Timothy Weah before finishing with finesse with his right foot (1-0, 17th). The Marseillais thought they had done the hard part but a few minutes later, Odsonne Edouard found the net from a penalty. The former PSG deceives Geronimo Rulli with a sublime panenka (1-1, 23rd).

Pavard betrayed his own…

As soon as they return from the locker room, RC Lens will increase the pace and show why they are in such a good place at the start of the season. Pierre Sage players will dominate their opponents and create many situations. Geronimo Rulli in a great evening will keep his teammates in the game before giving in a few minutes before the hour mark. Adrien Thomasson kicks a corner from the right to the left which arrives at the feet of Benjamin Pavard who deflects it into the Olympian cage (2-1, 53rd).

Despite chances at the end of the match and significant possession of the ball, Roberto De Zerbi's men were not going to succeed in beating Robin Rissier, imperious in front of his home crowd. The Lensois are in paradise and temporarily take second position while awaiting the outcome of the day.
