Arriving this summer on loan from RB Leipzig, Arthur Vermeeren continues his acclimatization at Olympique de Marseille. A promising start with a few minutes in Ligue 1, and much more playing time in the Champions League.

Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi explained this choice at a press conference this Friday, before the trip to RC Lens on Saturday. In his statements, the Italian suggested that the Belgian defensive midfielder was a victim of strong competition in his position, despite his qualities.

“This is the present and the future of OM”

“He’s not missing anything. He played well against Ajax and the first half against Sporting. I then thought that putting CJ Egan-Riley would add more strength. We are happy with him. There is competition for this position”he declared.

De Zerbi, however, confides that Vermeeren was one of the first recruits considered during the summer transfer window. “He’s one of the first names I talked about, I’m on good terms with the former Atlético Madrid director. I know Vermeeren well, he is a strong player and he will play a lot of matches. This is the present and the future of OM”he continued.
