After Real Madrid's victory against Juventus, Thibaut Courtois did not hesitate to once again tackle Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, about the recent controversies over the protests against the match between Villarreal-Barça, relocated to Miami. Asked about the quality of the Spanish championship, the Belgian goalkeeper said: “if you think this is the best championship in the World…”a clear dig at Tebas' often laudatory statements.

Courtois, who knows the Premier League well having played there with Chelsea from 2014 to 2018, seems to remain faithful to his English years. He won the title there in 2015 and 2017, while in Spain, he has already been crowned champion with Atlético de Madrid in 2014, then 3 times with Real Madrid (2020, 2022, 2024). His experience in these two championships fuels his legitimacy when he compares the Spanish competition to other European leagues.
