After the DAZN fiasco of last season, the Professional Football League (LFP) decided to launch its own channel this summer, called Ligue 1+. A gamble that is paying off, for the moment.
Indeed, the first indicators are rather positive. The platform, which broadcasts eight out of nine matches per Ligue 1 day, exceeded its expectations with more than a million subscribers recorded at the beginning of September. In addition, the public generally seems to adhere to the tone of the channel and its journalists. Which is not the case for Pierre Ménès…
For his YouTube channel, the former star consultant deplored the lack of critical opinions from stakeholders on Ligue 1+. The 62-year-old journalist judges the channel “ too smooth »which is already starting to tire him.
Ménès at Ligue 1+: “Stop taking people for idiots”
“ I like Adil (Rami) because he is extraordinarily spontaneous. Indeed, if he were not spontaneous, he would not say that he watched the PSG match from the 70th minute because it would undermine his intervention afterwards. It's up to the channel to tell him that it's not possible not to watch the entire PSG match and that it's not possible to say it on the air. This channel must be managed and coached”castigated Pierre Ménès.
And to add another layer: “ But at the same time, the content of this channel is so smooth… We're on the 8th day and I can't take it anymore. Everything is beautiful, everything is great, all the matches are extraordinary. People have eyes, stop taking people for idiots. »
