Long linked to Real Madrid during the last summer transfer window, Martín Zubimendi finally chose to join Arsenal rather than the Merengues. In an interview given to Diario ASthe 26-year-old midfielder spoke about the reasons for this choice, explaining that he was seduced by the style of play of the Gunners and their coach Mikel Arteta. “I don’t know, you can feel it. Once I decided to leave Real Sociedad, Arsenal was a team that suited me because of their style of play, above all. I also wanted a coach who was very detail-oriented and, as soon as I spoke to Arteta, I found what I was looking for. It was a very young team, very passionate, very united, with the desire to win, and even if they have not yet succeeded in doing so, that makes them even more motivated”he explained before the clash against Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League.

Asked about his clear choice between Arsenal and Real Madrid, Zubimendi insisted he never hesitated. “I can’t speak about other clubs. Arsenal was the one I chose, and I went for it completely.”he assured, before specifying regarding the supposed lack of a player like him within the Madrid squad: “To say that Real was missing a piece like me is an exaggeration, all their players are spectacular. And it's the same at Arsenal. The one who played in my position here is for me one of the best in his position. Above all, it was the club who decided that I needed a change, and I am here to help improve the team.”.
