The La Liga meeting between Villarreal and FC Barcelona relocated to Miami received the green light from UEFA. However, other LaLiga players quickly stepped up to denounce a decision deemed contrary to respect for other teams in the championship. Barça's historic rival, Real Madrid had even filed an appeal to oppose this relocation. Well the Spanish rumble has obviously ended up paying off. LaLiga announces that the match will no longer be played in Miami, but in the Villarreal stadium, as was initially planned.

LALIGA announces that following discussions with the promoter of the official LALIGA match in Miami, the decision was made to cancel the organization of the event due to the uncertainty that has reigned in Spain for several weeks. LALIGA deeply regrets that this project, which represented a historic and unprecedented opportunity for the international expansion of Spanish football, could not come to fruition. The organization of an official match outside our borders would have constituted a decisive step in the global growth of the competition, strengthening the international presence of the clubs, the positioning of the players and the visibility of Spanish football in a strategic market such as the United States. The project fully complied with all federal regulations and did not affect the integrity of the competition, as confirmed by the competent institutions responsible for ensuring compliance with these regulations, which opposed it for other reasons. In an increasingly competitive global context, where leagues such as the Premier League or competitions such as the UEFA Champions League continue to expand their reach and revenue-generating capacity, initiatives like this are essential to ensure the sustainability and growth of Spanish football. Foregoing such opportunities hinders the generation of new revenue, limits the ability of clubs to invest and compete, and reduces the international projection of the entire Spanish football ecosystem. Finally, we would like to thank the clubs for their willingness and collaboration in this project, as well as for their continued commitment to the growth of the competition. From LALIGA we will continue, as always, to work to promote Spanish football to the four corners of the world, promoting an open, modern and competitive vision that benefits clubs, players and supporters alike.“.
