At the end of the first half, Xabi Alonso protested strongly to the fourth official after a promising move by Real Madrid was interrupted to treat a Getafe player who was left on the ground. The Madrid coach, annoyed, left his technical area and, in the middle of an exchange with the referee, heard something coming from the Getafe bench which particularly upset him. He then turned towards this bench, asking with gestures to calm down.

José Bordalás, Getafe coach, intervened by asking his own bench to remain seated before coming to speak with Xabi Alonso. The discussion between the two technicians remained cordial, although Xabi clearly criticized a remark deemed inappropriate. After mutual explanations, the two coaches parted on good terms, with a few friendly pats, despite the tension that reigned at the end of the first period. The home team ended up finishing the match at 9 against 11, due to the expulsions of Allan Nyom (77th) and Álex Sancris (84th). Real won thanks to a goal from the inevitable Kylian Mbappé.
