At the end of a closed, but intense match, Alavés and Valencia parted with a goalless draw (0-0) at the Estadio de Mendizorroza, on the occasion of the 9th day of La Liga. Under the direction of Eduardo Coudet, the Basques displayed great defensive solidity in their 3-5-2 system, relying on a Pacheco–Tenaglia–Jonny trio well in place in front of a vigilant Antonio Sivera. Despite a voluntary start and several interesting situations led by Calebe and Toni Martínez, the Babazorros lacked precision in the last move, only hitting three of their thirteen attempts. Lucás Boyé, very active up front, weighed on the opposing defense without managing to realize the few opportunities created in the middle, where Antonio Blanco delivered a serious performance.
Opposite, Valencia, under the leadership of Carlos Corberán, was able to contain the local offensives while showing itself to be more dangerous in the zone of truth. The visitors scored two of their five shots, notably thanks to an active Hugo Duro and an incisive Arnaut Danjuma in the rapid transitions. Pepelu and Javi Guerra dominated the midfield in sequences, trying to impose a higher pace, but without success against a well-grouped Alavés team. Referee Iosu Galech Apezteguía had few contentious decisions to make in this meeting which was generally controlled from a disciplinary point of view. This draw, logical given the content, leaves the two teams in the middle of the table, each however regretting not having found the fault.
