Canal+ has been rubbing its hands since the start of the season. At least concerning the Champions League, so Canal is the exclusive broadcaster. The great return of Olympique de Marseille in C1 is indeed giving rise to historic audiences for the encrypted channel.
As on the first day, the meeting of the 3e day of the League phase between Sporting and OM, Wednesday, will also be broadcast on Canal+ while that between PSG and Bayer Leverkusen, Tuesday, will be on Canal+ Foot.
The situation will be different in two weeks on the occasion of the 4e daytime. On November 4, the channel's anniversary, Canal is preparing an evening event including the multiplex broadcast unencrypted on Canal+. The program is attractive since that evening, PSG will host Bayern Munich while Real Madrid will meet Liverpool at Anfield.
More and more unencrypted evenings on Canal+
This unencrypted broadcast follows the new roadmap drawn up by Gérald-Brice Viret, the general director of Canal+ France in charge of programs and antennas, after Canal's departure from TNT last spring.
“Since we left TNT, we can be in the clear whenever we want within the limit of six hours a day. Previously, we had to each time request authorization from ARCOM (the audiovisual policeman, editor's note), which regularly refused us unencrypted evenings.. This strategy allows us to discover the best of Canal+ and recruit new subscribers,” he explained in the columns of Télé-Loisirs.
This was the case this summer with the free-to-air broadcast of the opening match of the Premier League between Liverpool and Bournemouth at the time of the launch of the new Ligue1+ channel. “We will do it intelligently for the resumption of a major competition or the launch of an event,” Gérald-Brice Viret then indicated.
