AC Milan offered themselves a precious victory against Fiorentina (2-1) on Sunday evening during the 7th day of Serie A, thus regaining control of the championship for the first time since September 2022. The Lombards had to wait for the awakening of Rafael Leão to overturn a long balanced match against an ambitious Fiorentina of Stefano Pioli, former coach of the Rossoneri.

Robin Gosens opened the scoring for the Viola in the 55th minute, taking advantage of a struggling Milan defense. But Leão, back from injury, pulled out all the stops. In the 63rd minute, he equalized with a powerful strike from outside the area, before giving his team victory from the penalty spot in the 86th minute. A saving double which allows the Portuguese to find the net again at San Siro after 519 days of waiting in the championship.

Naples and Inter under pressure

In the standings, Milan temporarily takes the lead with 16 points, one point ahead of Naples and Inter Milan, who remain on the lookout. With five victories in seven matches and only one defeat, the Lombard club can calmly approach the rest of the season, with Rafael Leão finally freed and in great shape.
