Djibril Cissé could not contain his emotion during his jubilee last spring. For the occasion, Guy Roux, despite his 86 years, had indeed come out of his well-deserved retirement to officiate on the Auxerre bench in front of an obviously won over Abbé-Deschamps audience.

“He left a name, he left a philosophy, a way of seeing football. And especially in Auxerre, he left an immense legacy. We cannot separate AJA from Guy Roux. There you go, there are people like that who represent a club, he confided to the microphone of Téléfootadding regarding it: “ For me, it's a father-son relationship, a very special relationship. In my career, it only happened once to have this relationship with a coach. It's strong, very strong. »

But Djibril Cissé is not the only Auxerre player to have maintained a relationship like no other with Guy Roux. The same was true of Basile Boli before him or, in his time, of Philippe Mexés. “He’s a second dad. It's a reference. I was lucky that he took me under his wing.”he said on this subject in the podcast Kampo.

Taribo West marked for life by Guy Roux

Another club figure who recently returned to AJA, Taribo West also insisted on the importance of Guy Roux in his career as a player with Republican Yonne. “Guy Roux taught me a lot of things, secrets, to take these players to the mark. I had to be tough with them”he began to talk about the field.

“He is a father, a coach, a great leader, from whom I learned a lot. He showed me the path to follow. If I got here today, it’s thanks to Guy Roux”he said again after an emotion-filled embrace with his former coach.
