Manchester City holds its breath. The Spanish midfielder did not take part in collective training this Thursday, more than two weeks after his premature exit against Brentford. Hit in the thigh before the break, Rodri has still not returned to work with the group, enough to revive fears around his physical state.
The 28-year-old has just come out of a 2024-2025 season disrupted by a serious knee injury and a long convalescence. Since his return, he has struggled to find his rhythm, having only played two full games this season. His prolonged absence therefore arouses particular vigilance within the club.
Guardiola advocates patience with Rodri
According to the English press, Rodri is simply continuing his recovery program, without any further blows. His muscular discomfort, however, requires careful monitoring, with City preferring to avoid any relapse as the schedule intensifies.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of the Citizens, himself admitted that he did not expect to see “the best Rodri” again before the 2026-2027 season. A message of caution, but also of confidence, for a player who has become essential to the balance of the Sky Blues. And the checkered season, achieved last year in his absence, is perfect proof of this.
