This Wednesday, October 15, the Rennes administrative court looked into the request of Fatimata Dembélé, mother of recent Ballon d'Or Ousmane Dembélé, who is contesting taxation linked to a transfer of 200,000 euros received from her son in 2017. According to The Parisianshe requests the cancellation of the “exceptional contribution on high incomes” and the “additional income tax contribution” that the tax authorities demanded from him, believing that it was a simple gift for his 40th birthday.

But for the tax authorities, this transfer of money does not fall under a “usual present”due in particular to the amount judged “astronomical” and the professional context: Fatimata Dembélé was then a permanent employee in the company Waly Sport, created with her son, and responsible for managing its image. The public rapporteur stressed that the transfer, made in November to an undeclared Spanish account, was difficult to justify as a birthday present celebrated six months earlier, ironically: “It’s more of a Christmas present”. He concluded that the taxation was legal, while the court must deliver its decision within three weeks.
