Kvaratskhelia, the huge blow

Khvicha Kvatratskhelia is back. Affected in the calf then the left thigh in recent weeks, the former Neapolitan missed PSG's last two matches against FC Barcelona (1-2) and Lille (1-1). Despite everything, he was invited to the Georgia rally for this October international window.

After spending 69 minutes on the field during the Georgians' defeat against Spain (2-0), the Parisian striker started again against Turkey on Tuesday evening and played the entire game. A match which turned into a nightmare for Willy Sagnol's gang, swept aside 4-1 for the Turks.

Two defeats during this gathering which (almost) condemn Georgia. Indeed, the Crusaders are currently third in their qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, six points behind second place, Turkey, currently qualified for the play-offs. All with two days to go…

Georgia on the edge of a precipice

After its beautiful Euro 2024, Georgia will very probably not see the North American World Cup next summer. A slight hope exists despite everything. To qualify, Khvicha Kvatratskhelia and her partners will have to win their next two matches, in November, and hope for two defeats from Turkey.

Georgia will host Spain, then travel to Bulgaria. For its part, Turkey, which can still dream of first place, will face Bulgaria at home before a trip to Spain. The Turks will only need a small point to secure their place in the play-offs. Suffice it to say that the mission looks impossible for the Georgians.
