Gérard Lopez, the disaster

Rebelotte. Former president of Losc between 2017 and 2020, Gérard Lopez was already making headlines at that time, in the bad sense of the word. The businessman had, among other things, plunged the Lille club into debt. Catastrophic financial management once again carried out with another historic Ligue 1 player, the Girondins de Bordeaux. As a result, the Marines and Whites are starting a second season in National 2 after their administrative relegation.

These few experiences have not, it seems, satisfied the Hispano-Luxembourger. Also owner of Boavista, Gérard Lopez is once again in turmoil. The situation of the Portuguese club is critical, the team having just withdrawn from a second consecutive meeting, due to a lack of sufficient number of players registered.

A more than embarrassing situation as the Panthers have been playing in the fifth division since last summer. At that time, the club was already warning about his state of health. “Boavista SAD is currently going through an extremely complex economic and financial situation, the immediate viability of which has become unrealizable,” could we read in a press release published last July.

The end is near

These two consecutive withdrawals, one of which pitted them against Panteras Negras FC (from the supporters club), could cost a lot. According to the regulations of AF Porto, the Portuguese football amateur association, “ unjustified absence from two consecutive official matches or three interspersed matches is punished in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 2 of article 46.”

In other words, Boavista risks dissolution. The case is currently being handled by the AF Porto Disciplinary Council. This announcement would be a terrible blow for Portuguese football, which would see the 2001 Portuguese champion disappear.
