Retired from the football fields since 2019 and his departure from Dijon, Yoann Gourcuff notably marked the history of Bordeaux. Although he only stayed two seasons with the Girondins, the former number 10 was one of the great architects of the Championship-League Cup double achieved by the club in 2009. He notably worked wonders alongside Marouane Chamakh.
The former Moroccan striker, also retired since 2019, returned at length to the columns of SoFoot on her beautiful and unexpected relationship with Yoann Gourcuff.
“ No one expects it to get this big. Things weren't going very well for him in Milan, he came to Bordeaux and there, there was something happening at home, and it was perhaps a little contagious. “ It's a connection I've never had with other players, he continued. He became more than a friend. For him, football was much more than a passion. It was something he cared about and took an emotional toll on him, unlike me. When we lost, when I played badly, I didn't care. I was able to put things into perspective. The pressure, the stress, it affects me much less. »
And to conclude: “ That's what was good about Yoann, whether in small spaces, very distant, in centers: with our eyes closed, we could find each other. He's someone who stinks of football and so do I. » This should bring back fond memories for Bordeaux supporters.
