The 23e History World Cup is scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. But will it even take place? The question arises more than ever across the Atlantic, eight months before the curtain rises, while American President Donald Trump is increasing his outrageous political postures.

A few days after equating his Democratic opponents with “
left-wing extremists who don't know what they're doing

“ I love the people of Boston, but your mayor is no goodhe declared about Michelle Wu, on the sidelines of a meeting in Washington with his Argentine counterpart Javier Milei. Infantino summoned by Trump

Donald Trump went even further in his remarks, projecting himself onto a practical case with the alleged complicity of Fifa boss Gianni Infantino. “ If someone is doing a bad job and I think there is a security problem, I will call Gianni, the head of Fifa, who is fantastic, and I will say to him: 'Let's move the match to another place.' And he will! »

This depicted interference did not fail to cause an outcry. In a turbulent and conflicting American national context between Democratic strongholds and federal power dictated by the White House. For the moment, Fifa has not wished to react to these declarations of intent which pose a real threat of implosion to the 2026 World Cup. Or even outright cancellation if the political crisis in the United States were to assume uncontrollable proportions.
