Monday evening, the French team did not manage to do better than
zero result in Iceland (2-2), during the qualifiers for the next World Cup. Qualification will wait.

Jean-Philippe Mateta was started by Didier Deschamps for this meeting. Although he touched few balls, the striker distinguished himself with a goal in the second half. The Crystal Palace striker victoriously took in a cross from Maghnes Akliouche in the 68th minute of play.

“My first goal? It's a very strong moment for an attacker to score a goal, even more so with the Blues. First start, first goal… The smile? Obviously, yes,” reacted the native of Sevran at a press conference.

Mateta, first realistic

Over the last ten years, only five players have scored on their first start with the Blues. Jean-Philippe Mateta therefore joins a closed circle, formed by N'Golo Kanté, Wissam Ben Yedder, Kurt Zouma, Eduardo Camavinga and Warren Zaire-Emery

“We are frustrated. We wanted the victory, but we took this goal at the end… We pushed until the end to score this third goal. We could have done better overall. We leave with a draw, I prefer that to losing”Mateta also said. The Blues will host Ukraine and travel to Azerbaijan for the November rally.
