In August 2021, Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona after more than 17 seasons with the Blaugrana. Despite his desire to stay at the Camp Nou, at the cost of a considerable pay cut, La Liga's strict rules prevented him from doing so.

Finally, the eight-time Ballon d'Or took the direction of Paris Saint-Germain. A painful end to the story for the captain of Argentina and the Barcelona supporters, occurring during the inauguration of President Joan Laporta, who returned to the head of the club that same year, eleven years after his last mandate.

A departure that leaves its mark

In an interview given to 3Catthe Catalan leader returned to his relationship with Messi. Links lastingly marked by the non-extension of the 2022 world champion's contract.

“We had a very good relationship for a long time. When we didn't renew his contract, it got a little worse. Then we more or less regained our relationships. We are convinced that we will have the opportunity to pay him the tribute he deserves”confided Laporta.
